Your Kind Heart is Giving Johan a Brighter Future

Every day that Johan attends San Benito School in Managua, Nicaragua, he is part of an unlikely story.

For fourteen-year-old Johan, finishing school hasn’t always been a given. He has a learning disability, and the months of school he lost during COVID took years to make up. For a time, he attended the local public school, where there was no running water and no working bathrooms.

But, thanks to you, Johan has had a place at San Benito for the past three years. It is a place where he is loved and cared for. Where he is safe. And where he receives the quality education he needs and deserves.

Johan’s mother, Albalos, knows how important this opportunity is. She left school when she was only about ten years old. One of eight children, her family simply didn’t have enough money to keep everyone enrolled.

“Sometimes you look at your life,” she reflects, “and you think, ‘What would have happened to my life if I could have kept going?’”

Now, Albalos has a different dream. She wants her son to have the opportunity she didn’t. She wants Johan to study hard, move forward and finish school.

Johan is already working toward that dream. He is now in Grade 6, continuing his education in a safe, loving, Christ-centred school where teachers know him, care about him and want to see him succeed.

Across Nicaragua, Paraguay and Honduras, children like Johan are given opportunities that can change the direction of their lives. Christian schools like San Benito provide more than academics. They offer a supportive community, smaller class sizes and an education woven through with the love of Jesus.

Thanks to your care and compassion, Johan has the stability he needs to keep learning and dreaming about his future. And for Albalos, watching her son move forward means knowing that his story can be different from her own.
